The first positive case of rabies this year has Wichita County health officials reminding you to take precautions while outside.
Health officials say residents in a southeastern Wichita Falls apartment complex spotted a skunk wandering around the grounds Monday around 1 p.m.
They say residents quickly called out animal control, who removed it, and learned the skunk tested positive for rabies.
Health officials say no residents or pets came in contact with the skunk but that hasn't always been the case.
Here a quick look at the number of positive rabies cases in Wichita County over the past five years.
While pets have come in contact with rabid skunks, raccoons and other animals, health officials say the last time an encounter involved a person was two years ago.
