Soapbox Racers Go Down Hill for a Good Cause

- Racers at the 4th Annual YMCA Soapbox Derby got to enjoy the cool weather as they rolled down a downtown hill.

This year's race added a new category, in which racers got to build their own soapbox cars.

The race raises money for YMCA scholarships, providing money for kids to get involved with sports and activates.

Organizers say the Downtown Y has never turned down a kid who wanted to get involved, and it's the texoma community that makes it all possible.

“What really makes me feel good is when we reach out and ask for help the community is there for us, everybody's been so generous they are really there to help us,” says Downtown Wichita Falls YMCA President and CEO Brandon Brown.

Even our own KFDX anchors Ann Arnold and Gwyn Bevel got involved in the races.

Ann was the winner of this race, but Gwyn beat her earlier in the day.

And there was plenty to do for those who were not racing, as the kids stayed busy with face painting and a blow up slide.
