In his own words, “you can take the kid out of the farm, but you can't take the farm out of the kid.” For the last 53 years Joe Tom White has been bringing his own folksy style to Texoma radio. In college he asked Earl Sargent with KWFT if he wanted some help and soon had his own show
“They gave me a farm show a 15 minute farm show at 6:15 in the evening. Farmer's listen in the morning and the evening and that's about it,” he says.
They're listening now. Over the years, Joe Tom has been all over the local AM radio dial.
“I've worked at all three of the AM stations KWFT 620, which is gone KNIN, which is gone. Now at 1290. Hope I don't put them out of business.”
Today, he doesn't just talk about local events, he's active in the community as well. He's been on the Northwest Texas Field and Stream Board for more than 50 years and served on the board of the Railroad Museum helping kids get hands on with history. He's worked on publicity for the last 19 years with the Founder Lion's Club for the Texas Oklahoma Fair and of course the gun shows.
Joe Tom is not only the Spirit of Texoma, he's also the voice.
