Stamp Out Hunger

Mail Carriers Pick Up Food Donated By Residents

WICHITA FALLS, TX - Hunger affects about 50 million people around the country including children, senior citizens and veterans and that's why post offices across the country work a little longer and harder to deliver the mail and pick up some non perishable items left by residents on their door steps.

Every year, on the second Saturday in May, mail carriers across the country, like Carlos Alvarez, work a little longer for this great cause

"We're a symbol if our government working. The U.S. Postal Service for all the turmoil that we have, we're kind of like the good guys in everything right now," Carlos Alvarez said.  "This is a simple way that every house can participate and every letter carrier can participate and give back."

It's the country's largest single-day food drive

Wichita Falls Food Bank CEO, Kara Nickens said  "The national association of letter carriers goes around and picks up non perishable items that people are leaving out by their mailbox today."

And it wouldn't be possible without your help

"You come by some houses and they put out more than just one bag of food and it's a really good thing across the nation, " Alvarez.

Wichita Falls resident, Jerry Norris said "Out of the lord's abundance, he gives us extra...If our bucket doesn't have a hole in it, it wont be continually filled up so it's important to give out of the abundance that we have."

So that for one day, maybe longer, one person or family doesn't have to wonder where they will find their next meal.
