Just about one year after leaving the United Way, the board for the Straight Street ministry has voted to join the Hands to Hands Agency.
Straight Street Executive Director J.J. Schweiger says Hands to Hands had not planned to add any more organizations this year, but made an exception and invited Straight Street to join. Schweiger says Straight Street's funding had been cut by the United Way and United Way was only funding its education and employment program.
She says the board chose not to meet United Way's criteria to receive the funds last year. Since then, straight street has been making up the difference with fundraisers such as this Saturday's big motorcycle Compassion Run at Evangel Temple.
Straight Street is a Christian outreach ministry providing safe activities and life skills training for youth.
