Suspect Who Stole a Wichita Falls Police Car is Identified and Charged

The suspect who is alleged to have stolen a Wichita Falls Police Department patrol unit, run over an officer, led police on a high-speed chase and ended up driving onto Sheppard Air Force Base has been identified and charged.

Just before 4:30 Monday afternoon a Wichita Falls police officer whose name is not being released, responded to a call at the intersection of 5th and Broad. A few minutes later he located a man, 40-year-old James Chadwick Moore, who had allegedly been breaking into cars.

When he tried to speak with Moore, police report that Moore got into the officer's patrol car and hit the officer while driving away from the scene toward Sheppard Air Force Base. That is also when Moore is said to have driven over the officer and the officer was injured.

More than a dozen officers pursued the suspect all the way to the base. Police say it took less than 5 minutes for them to get him into custody once he drove onto the base through the Missile Road gate.

Moore now faces charges of theft, evading arrest, and aggravated assault. The officer he allegedly injured is expected to make a full recovery.
