A Fort Worth officer fatally shot a man suspected of robbing a Whataburger on Wednesday morning.
Around 6:26 a.m., a Whataburger at 6469 Brentwood Stair Rd. in Fort Worth was held up by a male suspect. The man fled from the scene before officers arrived.
When a Fort Worth Police Officer got to the scene, a witness gave him a description of the suspect which helped the officer identify a man nearby and chase him into a neighborhood.
Fort Worth police say the officer was shot at by the man and returned fire, hitting the man multiple times. The shooting scene was around two blocks away from the restaurant.
The man hit the officer in the upper right leg. After being hit, the officer managed to return to his vehicle and apply a tourniquet to the wound. His injury has been described as non-life threatening.
The man suspected of the robbery died in an area hospital after suffering multiple gunshot wounds. His name has not been released.
