WICHITA COUNTY - A man is now in the state hospital on an emergency commit, after the Wichita County Sheriff says the man barricaded himself inside his home and threatened to kill members of law enforcement and himself.
Authorities received a check welfare call around 5:50 p.m. Tuesday night, from the suspect's father, who told authorities his son, who is in his mid 20's, was armed with a shotgun and was threatening to harm himself.
Wichita County Sheriff David Duke says the home is on FM 1177, about a half mile from the Clay County line.
Sheriff Duke says once the Sheriff's Office SWAT team started to approach, deputies doing surveillance saw the man come out the back door of the home.
He says the man was then given orders to put his hands up and get on the ground, before he complied and was safely taken into custody.
The Sheriff says they located the man's shotgun in the house and there was a round in the chamber.
He also said he understands the man may have a history of dealing with mental issues and drug use.
Sheriff Duke says he is thankful no one was injured during this incident and said the roads they blocked off near the property as a precaution were reopened Tuesday night.
