Tamale Con Charges

A man accused of conning several people out of a total of around 175- dollars for tamales he never delivered is now facing a state jail felony.

That's because he was found to have at least two previous convictions for theft.

Officers say it was 50- year old Tony Perez who went to local businesses and told victims his mother was making tamales, and that she needed money up- front for supplies.

Police say when Perez was paid, he'd give victims a phone number.

Then, when that number was called, they'd reach a woman who'd never met Perez.

Police affidavits say Perez was identified by victims through photo line- ups.

He faces 3- counts of theft under $1,500 with 2- or more previous convictions.
