Teens Charged with Australian Baseball Player's Murder

- As national and international media descend on Duncan, three teens are charged in the murder of Australian Christopher Lane.

Sixteen year-old Chancey Luna, who allegedly fired the shot that killed Lane and 15 year-old James Edwards, who "had a cold attitude" and acted as if this was all a joke, are charged with first degree murder without bond.

The third teen, 17 year-old Michael Jones was charged with two counts; Use of a vehicle to facilitate the discharge of a firearm, along with accessory after the fact of first degree murder with a bond set at one million dollars.

Stephens County District Court was a busy place Tuesday afternoon, packed with people awaiting to hear the charges on three teens who allegedly killed Christopher Lane, an Australian who was in Oklahoma on a baseball scholarship to East Central University in Ada.

The District Attorney made it clear those responsible for Lanes death would not go unpunished.

“I am going to do everything in my power that I can to ensure that we see these three thugs pay for what they did to Christopher Lane,” said D.A. Jason Hicks.

But 15 year-old James Edwards Jr.'s father could not come to terms with hearing his son called a murderer.

“He is more interested in sports and things then worrying about guns or hunting or going fishing or anything like that,” Edwards said.

And after the three teens' charges were set reality began to kick in.

“I am hurting inside. Maybe I am not showing no tears because I am crying on the inside,” he said.

But tears and pain were easy to see on the face of 16 year-old Chancey Luna's mother.

“I don't want to see any more of this please just leave me,” she said as media surrounded her.

Others who came to witness the charges against the three teens were also visibly upset, as are residents of this town who have to deal with a crime that has brought national and international attention.

The next step for these three teens are the preliminary hearings, which will take place in the next two months.
