Black is charged with capital murder in the death of the Wichita Falls native in April of last year.
In opening arguments, the prosecutor told jurors the state will introduce evidence that a clump of Loper's hair was found in Black's vehicle after he jumped from the Grand Canyon before his arrest.
The first witness for the prosecution was Catherine Miller of Wichita Falls, Loper's mother. She testified she immediately thought of Black when she learned her daughter was missing from the Plano country club where she worked, and that Black seemed obsessed with her. But she says Black was the only friend who did not show up at Loper's house to lend support when she vanished.
Loper's body was found the next day in a field in Frisco.
