After realizing there was a great blood shortage in the area local physicians called on the Oklahoma Blood Institute and that was when the Texas Blood Institute was founded and tonight the nonprofit celebrated ten years of saving lives.

To mark the milestone folks gathered at the Wellington Banquet and Conference Center in Wichita Falls.

The event was all about celebrating the lives saved by loyal donors, blood drive coordinators, volunteers and partner hospitals.

The TBI is the sole provider of blood needed at medical facilities in 7 Texoma counties.

OBI/TBI Executive Director Daren Coats says, "It is a huge event for us to be able to celebrate 10 years of being able to provide blood to all the area hospitals, we are very happy and we couldn't do it without the donors stepping up and coming forward or the church groups, the businesses, the schools that make a difference every day by choosing to donate blood."

Each blood donation can help save as many as three lives.

Donors are able to give every 56 days.

Anyone who is healthy and over 16-years-old is usually able to give.

You can donate blood anytime by swinging by the TBI office in Wichita Falls.

You can schedule an appointment by calling 940-689-2400.
