YOUNG COUNTY - The Helen Farabee Center in Young County will soon receive a chunk of $15 million granted to more than 20 mental health centers across Texas.
Today the Texas Health and Human Services Commission announced the grant which was initiated by Texas' 87th District Representative Four Price's House Bill 13. The bill established the Community Mental Health Grant Program and provides $30 million in state funds over this course of this year and next year.
The grant will fund community programs and expanded treatment such as adding chemical dependency counselors, peers to mobile crisis outreach teams and the creation of drop-in centers to avoid hospitalization.
The funding was awarded through an application process, awardees are required to match a portion of the grant to demonstrate a commitment to addressing the mental health needs.
