The Ostermanns say god has called them to be ministers in Uganda, but they will not be on your normally short term trip.
They've decided to uproot their entire family and move to the African country to help Ugandans build a foundation for a better future.
As the Ostermanns enjoy one of the few sunny days they have left in Wichita Falls, they say they're not worried about their next adventure.
“As a mom, I mean there's, I could list all day long the things that I could worry about, but I know god has us in our hands and he'll take care of us,” says Vicki Ostermann.
It's their faith that convinced them to start the Heart For Uganda non-profit organization.
“Our goal is to build up Godly leaders not only in families but in communities so they will be the, mentors, examples for the young men growing up,” says Klint Ostermann.
Vicki's sister already works with a similar organization in Uganda teaching women, and the Ostermanns say working with both groups could help change the poverty stricken country.
“The people in Uganda are best suited to solve the problems in Uganda, we've sent billions of dollars of aid to Uganda or Africa for the last 60 years and all it's done is make the problem worst, poverty is worst, the orphan crisis is worst,” says Ostermann.
So to try and stop the cycle, the Ostermanns will be living and working there for at least 3 years, hoping to provide what the men of Uganda need to raise healthy, successful families.
“Through a vocational, education program, where we provide them with a job skill, business training and discipleship and Bible study, the other is organizational development where we we help organizations get what they need,” says Ostermann.
Skills that the Ostermanns hope will continue to enable the success of the Ugandans for many generations to come.
