Texoma Resident and Pearl Harbor Survivor Dies

Texoma has lost a member of the greatest generation, a long-time Young County resident.

When the U.S.S. Arizona exploded in Pearl Harbor on December 7th 1941, Gordon Brown was only feet away, in a turret aboard the U.S.S. West Virginia.

By the time the 2 hour attacks were over, the West Virginia was sunk in battleship row and more than a hundred of her crew were killed.

Brown joined the Navy about a year and a half before Pearl Harbor and was in for 6 years before going into the refrigeration business in Graham.

We talked with him 2 and a half years ago near the 70th anniversary of the 'date which lives in infamy'.

Brown passed away on Tuesday at the age of 93.

Thursday afternoon, his funeral was held at Faith Baptist Church in Graham where he was a deacon and choir director for many years.
