Texoma Turkey Fund Project needs your help

Some kind-hearted Texomans are already thinking ahead to Thanksgiving and they need your help.

The Texoma Turkey Fund project has one goal: to ensure every Wichita Falls area family has a ready-to-bake bird and all the sides for the holiday.

Erin Hudson started the project last year and says she was inspired by her favorite movie, A Christmas Carol.

She says in the classic, the big turkey really turned things around for the family in the movie, so she wanted to help as many people as possible.

Once she got things rolling, some of the folks at Fast Eddie's jumped on board, because they say there is a great need in Texoma.

"I think whenever people look at the need, and how great it is they are sort of intimidated by the number of hungry people and the number of people who are struggling, but you would be so surprised how one small act of kindness can snow ball and make a huge difference," Texoma Turkey Fund organizer Erin Hudson said.

The volunteers hope to feed between 30 and 50 families for Thanksgiving.

So far, they plan to deliver in Wichita Falls, Graham, Vernon, Electra, Iowa Park, and Burkburnett.

Anyone who wants to help can find the Facebook group: Texoma Turkey Fund (and then just request to join)

You can also email them at Texomaturkeyfund@gmail.com.

Here is how you can help:

They are in need of supplies, such as pans, canned goods and foil. You can drop those off at Fast Eddie's at 1505 Southwest Parkway. You can also drop raw turkeys at the local business.

They also need monetary donations to buy more supplies. You can donate at Union Square Credit Union or by dropping money off at Fast Eddie's. You can also make a monetary donation on their GoFundMe page----> here

They need delivery drivers, to get the turkeys to their final destinations.

They are also actively recruiting families in need. If you are in need, just reach out to the volunteers and they will get you on their list. Families can request a frozen turkey to thaw and prepare themselves, those will be delivered the weekend before Thanksgiving, or families can get a seasoned, thawed, and ready-to-bake turkey. They will also be buying turkeys in a variety of sizes, since every family's needs are different.
