Unemployment numbers are in for counties surrounding Wichita and here are some of the highs and lows: for February, Baylor County had the lowest rate in Texoma with 4.4%. That's down from 4.6% the month before and a year ago.
Jack County had the next lowest, at 4.5%. Six counties had rates under 5% in February. Two counties had rates of 6% or higher. Wichita County had 6.1% and Cottle had 6% in February. A year ago, Cottle's rate was at 7%. For the city of Wichita Falls, there were gains in service jobs, but losses in government positions in the last year.
Wichita Falls saw a net loss of 200 manufacturing jobs, and a loss of 300 local and federal jobs, but saw a gain of 400 service jobs, and 700 net gains in private service positions. The February unemployment rate in Wichita Falls fell from 6.6% from January and February a year ago to 6.3%.
