Texoma Voices Concerns to Congressman Thornberry at Town Hall Meetings

Mac Thornberry made a round robin trip throughout several Texoma towns to visit with constituents about the sequester and other topics.

And while Congressman Thornberry may not have had an answer for every question, people said they felt confident with him as representing them in Washington.

"The power system in our government right now is screwed up," said Victor Walker of Archer County.

"We really have a concern that Washington is not paying attention to us," said Bennie Schlegel, from Holliday.

People packed the
Archer County Courthouse Annex to express their views of our federal government to congressman Mac Thornberry.

"People are frustrated that we are not dealing with the real source of the problems in Washington," said District 13 Mac Thornberry.

It's been a week since the sequester hit, with the government cutting $85 billion dollars in automatic spending cuts, which takes a toll on our military.

"Our defense is the most important thing to us," said Walker.

"Until we deal with mandatory spending we are not going to be getting to the source of our real fiscal problems," said Thornberry.

Congressman Thornberry says since 1962 military spending has stayed relatively the same, at about two thousand dollars per person in the US.

But mandatory spending, including things like entitlements and food stamps, has risen from $4 thousand dollars per person to $12 thousand.

While many are concerned with what will happen in the upcoming months, as many big deadlines approach for lawmakers, Thornberry says it's the future we should focus on.

"It's not just about us now, at this moment it's about what it's going to be like for our kids and grand kids," he said.

Thornberry says he wants to ensure a safe and secure future for the next generations to come.

Right now, he's not so sure the future generation will have what their parents have.
