Thornberry Comments on Government Shutdown

Congressman Mac Thornberry says he isn't happy about the government shutting down and believes it could have been avoided.

"I think it's unfortunate and unnecessary, you know the House passed 3 different proposals over the last few days to keep the government operating and also to protect people from some of the consequences from ObamaCare. So we kept changing the proposals trying to find something that somebody in the Senate would at least talk about and basically we were met with a stone wall. The President said he was not even going to talk."

Thornberry says he is unsure of what will take place next. He says there have been 17 government shutdowns since 1976, most of which lasting a day or two.

The longest government shutdown was the last one. It lasted 21 days.
