With the president showing little interest in putting a stop to automatic spending cuts, 13th District Congressman Mac Thornberry says "it is difficult to say what will happen" as we approach what's being called the fiscal cliff.
And if the president and congress are unable to come to an agreement, Thornberry says the department of defense will take a big hit. And right here in Texoma Sheppard Air Force Base would feel the impact.
Thornberry said, "While military pay is exempt, all other programs, projects, and activities within the Department of Defense would be cut by about ten percent. This would come on top of 487-billion dollars in defense cuts already being implemented."
Thornberry said education, medical research, food safety, border security, and air travel will also see cuts.
