Three Die in Multi-Vehicle Crash in Archer County

At least three people are dead after a horrendous multi-vehicle crash in Archer County. It happened around noon Tuesday, on Highway 82 west of Dundee.

DPS troopers say the fatal accident was caused by a pickup that was heading eastbound on Highway 82 and crossed the center line. That crash caused a black pickup to catch on fire and a red pickup to run off the road.

Investigators have not yet released the names of the people involved, but say three people died on the scene and a fourth was flown by medical helicopter to United Regional in Wichita Falls.

Investigators say the crash involved one vehicle that actually hit two separate pickups.

"The red vehicle that was pulling the trailer was behind the darker vehicle that was pulling a trailer. The eastbound pickup struck, as it crossed the center stripe, it struck the side of the first trailer then hit the second vehicle head on," DPS Trooper Tony Fulton said.

Trooper Fulton says two people in the westbound red truck and one person in the eastbound pickup died on the scene.

He says investigators are still trying to determine which vehicle a female crash victim was in who was pinned under a trailer and flown to United Regional in Wichita Falls.

Highway 82 near Dundee is no longer closed.
