Three Dozen Chickens Killed in Burk Fire, Firefighters Save Home

- UPDATE: Burkburnett VFD firefighters were able to quickly put out a blaze behind a home before it spread to other structures.

That fire was called in around 10:40 p.m. Sunday and it started in a chicken coop.

Firefighters rushed to the scene to put out the flames because other structures were threatened.

Chief Rodney Ryalls says it appears a light in a chicken coop caught some hay on fire which then spread to the rest of the structure.

All 36 chickens inside died.

Ryalls says crews had the fire contained within 10 minutes, but stuck around a while because of the wind and high fire danger.

No other injuries were reported.
