Hundreds of families got to pick out their own Christmas tree for free Saturday, all donated by the Trees for Troops program.
Employees at the Fort Sill recycling center opened their doors at 7:30 a.m. but many families lined up as early as 5 a.m. To make sure they got their perfect Christmas tree.
Organizers say despite the cold temperatures and harsh wind the day was a success because the families are so grateful for the trees.
“It's just excitement, I mean they're just tremendously excited and it's just part of their holiday celebration and Christmas celebration and I think it's becoming a tradition fro some families, you know lets go get the tree, lets decorate the tree, it's just a big family coming together thing,” says Recycle Program Manager Chris Smith.
The recycling center received almost 400 trees.
They will continue to give them out Sunday starting at noon until they are all gone.
