Trial of Former Altus Cop Moved to Frederick

The trial of a former Altus cop has been moved to Frederick on a change of venue order.

Russell Hansel, a 17-year veteran of the Altus Police Department, was arrested after a six month investigation.

Fellow Officer Jose Arce was also arrested.

They were arrested in February 2013 after an investigation by the Altus Police Department with help from the FBI.

Arce pleaded guilty earlier this year to 3 of four counts of receiving stolen property. He received two-years deferred probation

Hansel's attorney filed a motion for a change of venue for his trial which was granted and moved to Tillman County. It is set to begin August 11.

Altus Police Chief Tim Murphy says Hansel and Arce were recorded with surveillance cameras buying stolen property.

Hansel is charged with 4 related counts of receiving stolen property and once count of possession a sawed-off shotgun.
