Troopers Identify 3 Killed in Archer County Fatal

- DPS troopers have now identified the three people killed in a fatal crash in Archer County on Tuesday.

According to investigators, the fatal accident was caused by a black pickup, driven by 45-year-old Adelberto Chapa of Fort Worth, that was heading eastbound on Highway 82 and crossed the center line.

That caused the pickup to catch fire and a red pickup to run off the road.

17-year-old Lacy Mullings and 23-year-old Cody Goss, both from Maud, Oklahoma, were in that red pickup.

Chopa, Mullings and Goss all died at the scene.

A 31-year-old woman from Mexico was also in the black pickup that caught fire. She was pinned under a trailer and flown by medical helicopter to United Regional.

She remains in critical condition.

Before emergency crews arrived on scene had drivers, like Stanley Wright, who was heading to Lubbock, springing into action to help.

"Tried to put the front of the pickup out but it just kind of smothered it for a minute then it started right back. The it wasn't long before it started popping and we had to get away from it," says Wright says.

Tara Porter was heading to Odessa when she came across the crash shortly after it happened. And the oil field safety instructor grabbed her CPR kit and also tried to help.

"The lady who was pinned underneath the trailer, when I asked her if she was okay it was just blood gurgling and that's all I could hear.  She couldn't talk.  You try to help the best you can and just say a prayer that they'll be okay," Porter says.

While drivers offered prayers investigators worked to clear the scene and find out why a truck crossed the center lane that led to this deadly accident.

After being closed for more than five hours, TxDOT has reopened Highway 82 near Dundee in both directions.
