ELECTRA - Electra commissioners have just accepted and certified petitions to try to remove two commissioners from office.
After the controversial firing of Police Chief Michael Hopkins, dozens of Electra residents signed petitions requesting an election for recall of Place 1 Commissioner Kevin Byrd and Place 2 Commissioner Ricky Kelley and Mayor Pam Ward for what they call "abuse in office and incompetence".
One-hundred signatures are needed to call the recall election and each petition for Byrd and Kelley is said to have more than 150.
Even though the petitions have been certified as containing enough signatures, it doesn't necessarily mean there will be an election.
Tonight, commissioners will have more closed executive sessions regarding positions of the police chief, city administrator and city attorney.
City officials in all three of those positions have either been dismissed, resigned or not had contracts renewed in the past two years and the chief and administrator position are now being staffed by interim officials.
