Two More College Officials Plead Guilty to Federal Charges

- Two more American Commercial College executives pleaded guilty to federal charges admitting they knew about illegal activity by the college but failed to report it.

James Michael Otto, who was the college's chief operating officer, and Bruce Alan Reed, former campus director for ACC's San Angelo campus, are the most recent officials to admit wrongdoing.

Thursday, ACC President Doyle Brent Sheets pleaded guilty, personally and on the behalf of the university, to one count of theft of government funds and aiding and abetting.

According to court records, college officials manipulated records to make it look like the campuses were eligible to receive federal student aid when they were not.

Federal officials allege ACC cheated the federal government out of almost a million dollars from 2007 through 2009.

New enrollments at the Wichita Falls, Odessa and San Angelo campuses were put on hold in 2011, but resumed about four months later.

Each official faces a maximum sentence of three years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
