Sunday marks two years after a terrible accident in which two Wichita Falls teenagers and one unborn baby were killed and still no judgment in the case.
Following that accident, former WFPD Officer Teddie Whitefield was indicted on three counts of manslaughter.
Whitefield was with the department at the time and, according to DPS records, was driving his patrol unit without his lights flashing down Jacksboro Highway.
The report states he was driving between 63 and 86 miles per hour about two blocks before the crash.
The speed limit on that stretch of road is 45 miles per hour.
The report says toxicology results detected four different medications in Whitefield's system including an allergy medicine, diet pills, and two different types of depression medication, one of those being Xanax.
According to investigators' reports, Whitefield's vehicle hit a car driven by 18-year-old Yeni Lopez, who was eight-months pregnant at the time, killing her and her passenger, 13-year-old Gloria Montoya.
Court records show Whitefield waived his March 30, 2012 arraignment and eight pre-trial conferences scheduled for this case have been reset since then.
Records also indicate that no future hearings are set at this time.
We spoke with First Assistant District Attorney John Gillespie, the lead prosecutor in this case.
He says Whitefield's attorney hired an accident reconstruction team to take a closer look at the accident and both attorneys are waiting on those results before setting future hearings.
Gillespie says the trial date should be set at the next hearing and he says they're looking at a possible change of venue for this case because it's high-profile.
But that, of course, will be up to 30th District Judge Bob Brotherton to decide.
