Ulm Corporation officially opened yesterday with a few dozen workers.
And now, after a unanimous vote city councilors, the company has an incentive to add several hundred more people to its payroll.
The Wichita Falls economy will soon get an economic boost and it's all thanks to this vote by city council members.
Those guys are members of the Ulm family.
For several weeks, they've negotiated with the chamber of commerce and industry to open Ulm Corporation's Southwestern regional headquarters and distribution center.
However, before councilors gave the go ahead, on Monday, the company officially started operating out of the old Penske building on Central Freeway East.
"We have hired, I think it's 52 drivers. We have hired guys that have experience. We've hired guys that have some experience and we're training up people," says Billy Ulm.
Over the next three years, Ulm Corporation will use up to $2.3 million in 4A Board money to recruit and retain more than 300 additional workers.
Local chamber of commerce and industry officials say this oil field services company will funnel lots of money into the area.
"It will be about about $88 million dollars in the North Texas Work Force delivery area. That's a 13 county area surrounding Wichita Falls," says Kevin Pearson, with the Wichita Falls Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
An area that will soon benefit from Ulm Corporation.
Although some local oil trucking companies are not happy about the competition the city that is not the case with the city.
However, the last time the city shelled out big bucks to bring a company to town was back in 2010.
It gave nearly $8 million from the 4A Sales Tax Fund to Natura to start a mattress facility here.
However, less than 2 year later, Natura's parent corporation in Canada filed for bankruptcy protection and still owes the city money to this day.
But Interim Chamber of Commerce President Kevin Pearson says he reviewed Ulm's company financial condition with a fine tooth comb and Billy Ulm's 2011 income tax statements.
He says he found both to be rock solid.
