Forty-eight year old Dennis Smith passed away unexpectedly last Thursday and was laid to rest this past Monday.
He became a full time employee of Texas Parks and Wildlife Department in 1983.
At the time of his death he was the manager at the hatchery.
In March 2012, low water conditions at Lake Kemp forced parks and wildlife officials to suspend fish rearing operations at Dundee.
Since then the facility has lost several employees who retired or resigned, leaving only a handful of employees.
Parks and wildlife officials say operations remain suspended at the facility and employees will continue working on maintenance projects.
Officials also say there are no immediate plans to hire a new manager for Dundee which is one of the state's largest fish hatcheries and producers of striped bass and hybrid striped bass.
