A former Midwestern State University and Wichita Falls High School standout football player is charged with sexual assault.
According to the MSU athletic website, 19-year-old Rodney Higgins Jr. was listed as a freshman cornerback. MSU Chief of Police Patrick Coggins says they were called just before 11:00 Sunday night to a report of an assault in one of the residence halls on campus.
The arrest affidavit states the victim was entering her room when she saw who she later identified as Higgins, who then threw her to the floor then onto a bed and sexually assaulted her.
The affidavit states the victim was able to send a text message to her friends who arrived to find Higgins on top of her before he ran out.
According to MSU Sports Information, Higgens had actually been suspended from the football team sometime last month due to a violation of team rules.
