The Air Force has selected Altus Air Force Base over other bases as the site for training for the new KC-46A refueling tanker.
But Altus did not win its bid to become the main operating base for the planes. That went to McConnell Air Force Base in Wichita, Kansas.
The selection process began with 54 bases, narrowed to 9 in January on a point system, after on-site visits by defense department teams.
More jobs and investment in Altus Air Force Base and a big boost to the local economy.
In addition, there will likely be added training operations at Sheppard Air Force Base with instruction in basic aircraft fundamentals for the KC-46 crew chiefs before they transfer to Altus.
The KC-46A will eventually replace the ageing fleet of KC-10s and KC-135s.
