Vernon City Secretary Receives Controversial $7000 Raise

A large raise for one new city employee has Vernon commissioners questioning the action of the interim City Manager to give the city secretary a raise.

Travis Taylor has been a commissioner for 8 years and says although the city has been through its fair share of ups and downs he feels they're finally in a good place regarding finances.

He says he'd like to see about 100 city employees get a 2-and-a-half percent raise in the next budget cycle and not just one now.

"For our interim city manager to give a raise without authorization of approximately 7- thousand dollars to an employee who's been here for less than, well not less than, but two months. I do not agree with the city manager, Mr. Pence the interim giving one employee and not everybody a raise," Travis Taylor, Vernon Commissioner.

A special commissioners meeting is set for Thursday afternoon at 12:15 at Vernon City Hall.
