One person is killed this morning after a car hits a landscape boulder in the roadway, and police are still trying to find out how it got there.
It happened on Southbound I-44 over Old Iowa Park Road around 5:15 Tuesday morning, and at least 4 cars were involved.
Officers closed all Southbound lanes of traffic from Northwest Freeway to just past Old Iowa Park Road while they investigated the crash. Traffic was allowed back on the road about 4 hours later.
Police say the first car hit a boulder on the road. How the boulder got on the freeway, and what happened next is still under investigation.
Police have identified the victim as 76 year old Ramon Hernandez of Wichita Falls. Hernandez’s body will be sent to Tarrant County Medical Examiner for autopsy.
Investigators will be reviewing video from cameras at surrounding businesses to see if the boulder could have been dropped by a rock hauler, or if it was dragged up by a semi from a landscape area.
