The council promotes literacy for adults who want to work on their basic reading skills, and the burger burn is one of the yearly events that helps them do so.
WALC holds several of these fundraisers throughout the year and the funds raised will go towards tutoring that the council offers, books, the facilities used and more.
"We are a small non-profit organization. We don't charge for our services. We don't get any federal or state funding so all of our funding comes from donations, fundraisers and this is just one way that we make money throughout the year," Program manager Cindy Price says.
The burgers and the buns were provided by Harley Davidson and council members say all they had to do was come out, cook and serve it up with a smile.
