The city of Graham is currently under stage 5 emergency water use restrictions after an early morning water line break.

Officials with the Graham Public Works Department say a 14 inch water line broke at about 4am under State Highway 67 and 5th Street.

Officials say the water line break has caused water flow into the city to reduce by 50 percent. Now officials are urging Graham residents to reduce water use.

Under stage 5 emergency water use restrictions, residents cannot water outside except through a hand held hose, car washes are requested to reduce use, and bulk water sales at the racks on State Highway 16 are discontinued.

Officials also say State Highway 67 is reduced to one lane in each direction from FM 61 to 4th Street while crews work on the water line.

5th Street at Pecan and State Highway 67 is closed. Officials say stage 5 emergency water use restrictions may last into the weekend.
