This evenng a fairly stable
airmass resides over Oklahoma and most of western north
Texas...though storms developing over the higher terrain of western Kansas
and the Texas and Oklahoma panhandles may creep into parts of western
Oklahoma and western north Texas later this evening and through the
night. With persistent northeast flow...we will see lows fall into
the 60s most places.
For tomorrow...a few showers or storms may linger into the
morning hours...with perhaps some very isolated activity
developing by afternoon. Any remnant outflow boundary from
overnight storms may serve as a focus for storm
development...though coverage is not expected to be widespread.
Highs will once again come in below normal...with mid 80s to low
More widespread thunderstorm potential will exist from late
tomorrow afternoon/early evening through tomorrow night. A potent
upper level shortwave will move from northwest to southeast through the larger scale
northwest flow. With this wave...one or more thunderstorm
complexes are expected to traverse the southern plains. Initial
thunderstorms will be capable of producing large hail and damaging
winds. Heading into the evening and overnight hours...heavy rain
and possible flash flooding will become a threat. But we will have to wait to see
just where these storms go.
Showers and a few storms will likely linger into the first part
of the day on Friday...and remnant cloud debris and rain cooled
air will keep temperatures in the low to mid 80s most places.
By the weekend...mid level ridging will try to re-establish
itself over the southern plains in the wake of the departing upper
wave. This will bring decreased rain chances and more summer like
weather for the weekend and first part of next week.
