That is the trend across Texas and the nation this year. Across the nation, the number of human cases is down more than half.
The number of deaths is also dramatically down, with 163 by October last year compared to only 44 this year.
In Texas the numbers are down even more substantially from 2012 with under 70 cases this year compared to almost 2,000, and only 4 deaths compared to 89 last year.
Only 64 of the state's 254 counties have reported West Nile in people so far this year.
