Several members of the Wichita Falls Elite Swim Team or WEST are back in Texoma
After taking in the Olympic swim team trials in Omaha, Nebraska.
The head coach says two members on their team have what it takes to one day bring Olympic gold to Texoma.
They may not be in this pool yet, but two swimmers from WEST right here in Wichita falls, could be well on their way.
"They were working hard, they had good attitudes and it's just really amazing to see young people have a lot of self control," Marva Hogue, the WEST Coach said.
She is talking about her two star pupils, 14 year-old Joshua Porter-- and 12 year old Yolanda Moreno.
Joshua is currently racing just under Olympic times at the AA level.
But Hogue says it's his time out of the water which sets him apart from the pack,"he goes online and he studies his stroke and his technique to make himself better. He does his own weightlifting outside of what we do to build the strength in his body," she said.
As for Yolanda, Hogue says her "never say quit" attitude is propelling the Texoma stand out into first place time and time again.
"She is one of those hard headed people that is like i am not going to let you beat me I am going to beat you and I am going to show you how it's done no matter what you do," Hughes says.
Yolanda excels in long distance swimming, which is unique for how young she is.
"I want to try to get Olympic times for my long distances scores and then hopefully I want to go into the 2016 Olympics," Yolanda said.
Joshua has the same goal, make it to the Olympics.
And after watching the Olympic trials he knows what it will take to reach his dream.
"It really made me want to try harder because to see how good those guys are, it really makes you want to do better," he said.
West plans to have a viewing party for the Olympic swim meet to keep them motivated and inspired.
And of course you can catch the games as well right here on KFDX starting July 27th.
