Wichita Falls, Texas -
The Wichita Falls Fire Department welcomed new members on Friday evening, including its first female firefighter since 2011, during its 60th Annual Academy Graduation Ceremony.
Nine new firefighters proudly sat before family and friends at Memorial Auditorium as they became part of Wichita Falls' bravest.
Noelle Garcia says her mom inspired her to become a firefighter and she's honored to become part of such a close family.
She says while the journey has not been easy but she encourages young girls to consider becoming firefighters.
"It's an honor," Garcia says. "I've been working hard for this for the past year, training hard, working physically. It's definitely a challenge that I want to encourage other females to get out and do it. We can do it too, not just the guys."
The graduating class of firefighters will now join several fire stations across Wichita Falls.
A big congrats to all the new firefighters and thank you for your service to our city!
