WFISD Bond Proposal Made of Compromises

In a six to one vote the WFISD makes its $125 million bond proposal official.

Superintendent, Dr. John Frossard says between countless community groups, emails, and phone calls the district received, many opinions on what the bond proposal should consist of were voiced.

And, he says compromises were made, even in the final moments before the bond passed.

It's been a tough road for WFISD Superintendent and school board members to create a bond proposal they hope will move education in Wichita Falls forward.

In the end, a two comprehensive high school plan with a Career and Technology Education center plan was chosen.

Nobody gets everything they want but it is certainly an improvement of what we have,” said Frossard.

Dale Harvey, the only school board member who voted against the bond, believes a three comprehensive high school plan would better assist the demographic of the community.

Since 2008 our families who are low socioeconomic statue has gone from 54 percent to 65 percent and I think that is a definite need that we have to address as a district,” he said.

Trey Sralla had similar feelings, but decided to go with the two high school plan.

The most important thing is to get something done for our students, so there is a career and technology education center which I am gun-ho about, the small school option I have been very big on, the safety and security features,” said Sralla.

Talk of two separate bond proposals also emerged.

One for the career and technology education center and another for the high schools, but most members agreed both projects are needed and are contingent on one another.

If we want to deal with high schools later then its not going to get any cheaper and it just might become unaffordable especially if we go ahead now and pass a smaller bond for the CTE center,” Frossard said.
