Eighty-five percent of WFISD 8th graders passed the math portion of the test and that's up six percent from scores last year.
When compared to the state's results, WFISD 8th graders scored higher in the math portion.
For the fifth grade exam, 79% of students across the state passed the math portion, while 77% passed in the WFISD.
But, while the Wichita Falls average was lower than those statewide, the district did see a three percent increase from last year's results.
As for the reading portion of the STAAR test, 81% of all 8th graders passed. That's a two percent drop from last year's scores. The WFISD was only one percent below the state average in reading.
Fifth grade results also declined by one percent from last year's results. According to state law, students who did not pass this month's exams will have to re-take them in May.
