A select group of local teachers is getting recognized for their hard work in the classroom.
Twenty teachers from the Wichita Falls Independent School District were named the 2012 West Foundation Teaching Excellence Award winners.
These teachers were nominated by their peers such as principals and administration.
West Foundation President Kim Dinsdale says these teachers' dedication should be praised.
"They are the most important influences on our children," Dinsdale says. "They have them five days a week, eight hours a day."
Dinsdale says, "The trust imposed on them for taking care of our children is huge. I think excellence is teaching should be recognized."
Each teacher received a certificate and a $5,000 check on Monday.
