One thing that could help to extend the water supply is adding Lake Kemp water back into the system, but for now that is not a possibility.

Lake Kemp water had to be removed from the system when all the pieces of the emergency water reuse project were connected at the beginning of the year.

With low lake levels the water in Lake Kemp is too salty to be processed.

Lake Kemp has risen slightly from the recent rains to 21.8%, up from last week's 21.5%

But the city is talking with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality about finding a way to get that water back into the system when the reuse project is online.

Schreiber says that process could take some extra treatment steps.
