Commissioners are looking at upgrading all five of the Wichita County courtrooms by adding new digital amenities.
County commissioners started talking about the plans after the recent Michael Morton Act, which requires lawyers to display any evidence that's relevant to the case, which often includes large files.
Commissioners say upgrades in the courtroom that help the attorneys digitize all evidence may be mandated by 2016, so the county is starting to talk about plans for the upgrade.
"We want something that's going to work and something that's going to be here for the taxpayers of Wichita County for many years to come and with technology changing very fast that's a challenge, so we want something that we can say, hey we're good if we spend this money and we budget this money and get this done," County Commissioner Barry Mahler says.
Mahler says they'll be talking with the county's IT department this week. He says they expect to hear proposals from several companies this week as well.
Once plans are made, it's estimated the upgrades will take about a year.
