This program will provide resources to low-income women and children in the form of fresh, nutritious, unprepared, locally grown fruits, vegetables, and culinary herbs from farmers' markets; and the fact that it will increase the consumption of locally grown fruits and vegetables.
“This program increases the availability of fresh fruits and vegetables to WIC customers and further encourages them to purchase and prepare healthy foods for their children using WIC benefits,” said Jessica Morath, Nutrition Services Director.
Women, infants over 12 months old, and children who are certified to receive WIC Program benefits or who are on a waiting list for WIC certification are eligible to participate in the FMNP. The benefits are $30 of free vouchers per WIC participant (excluding infants to less than 1 year old) to purchase fresh, local fruits and vegetables. The vouchers will be redeemable at: Wichita Falls Downtown Farmer’s Market at 8th & Ohio and Red River Farmer’s Market at 101 E. Hatton Road.
Farmer’s Market Hours: Tues, Thurs, Sat. 7:30 am — 1 pm and vouchers may be picked up at the Wichita Falls Area Food Bank 1230 Midwestern Parkway—8am-5pm—940-766-2322 and at the Wichita Falls Downtown Farmer’s Market on May 24th. WIC participants will need to show Shopping List to receive vouchers.
