Wichita Falls City Councilor Jesse Brown withdraws from the County Treasurer race

Exactly one month after announcing his candidacy for Wichita County Treasurer, Wichita Falls City Councilor Jesse Brown has withdrawn from the Republican primary race.

Brown, who is District Four City Councilor, says that before he announced for treasurer last month he checked with his supervisors at MSU where he works and was told that if elected to a paid elective position, he would then have to resign from his position at MSU.

However, upon further discussion with university officials, Brown says he learned there could be a  potential conflict of interest just campaigning for the position. With this choice, Brown says he opted to pull out. Brown says the MSU  policy has an exception which allows employees to hold city elected positions.

Current Republican Treasurer Bob Hampton has been in office since November of 2004 and says he plans on running again in 2018.
