Wichita Falls grows closer to downtown hotel

WICHITA FALLS - The City of Wichita Falls is one step closer to building a downtown hotel near the Multi-Purpose Event Center.

Tuesday, Gatehouse Capitol received final approval for its franchise application with Marriot International. The application, for a 150 room Delta by Marriot Hotel.

In Aug., city leaders signed off on a 10-year tax abatement to construct a new convention center hotel at 33 Travis Street.

Originally, the city had plans to build a Doubletree hotel, but Gatehouse and city leaders recently changed their minds. City officials said the new deal will save the city $1,000,000 in development.
