Wichita Falls Lowers Water Usage Goal

Now that Wichita falls is in stage 5 water restrictions, the city has lowered the daily water use goal.

Under stage 4, the city was shooting for between 14 and 17 million gallons water use per day. Now the goal is no more than 14 million.

From Saturday when stage 5 took effect, to Monday, daily water use averaged about 11.5 million gallons per day.

Now, in case you wonder how much water was used in the good old days before restrictions, go back to 2001. In July daily use was from 40 to more than 50 million gallons per day.

Even as recently as June of 2010, when we had some good rain, daily use was 26 million gallons.

Before the drought, talk of water restrictions centered on exceeding the production capacity of the water plants, not running out of water.

You can track daily use of water at the city water tracker site, here: http://www.wichitafallstx.gov/documents/2/85/442/water%20tracker%205-20-2014_201405221201465088.bmp
