Wichita Falls health officials are helping businesses spread the word about the city's new smoking ordinance.

Several hundred signs arrived yesterday at the health district and many are at the front desk for businesses to pick up on a first come basis.

The signs advise that cigarette and electronic cigarette smoking is not allowed within 20 feet of a business entrance or location, like a playground, and five feet from businesses that don't allow people under age 18. The the signs are funded through a state grant.

"When we knew the ordinance was passed and going into effect the 17th of July, we contacted the state for permission to use grant funds to purchase signs whether for parks, playgrounds, local businesses, bars and restaurants and so on," says Will Carter, Transforming TX Grant Prog. Mgr.

There are metal signs and decals. Any businesses interested in getting one should stop by the public health district on Third Street weekdays during business hours.
